What is Bichectomy?

Bichectomy is the surgical removal of large fat pads located in the cheeks (buccal fat pads). This operation is performed to make the facial features more prominent and to create a thinner face. It is generally preferred in today's aesthetic understanding to clarify the facial features and to obtain a sharper jaw and cheekbone line.

The surgery can be performed under local or general anesthesia, usually performed with a small incision made inside the mouth from the inside of the cheeks. This incision is not visible from the outside. The fat tissue in the cheeks is removed from this incision. The incision is closed with stitches and usually leaves no scar. The surgery takes about 1 hour. If it is applied together with rhinoplasty and chin liposuction, more proportional changes are created in the face.

Recovery Process

• Swelling and bruising may be seen in the first 1-2 weeks, but this condition is usually short-term.

• A soft diet is recommended.

• Oral hygiene should be taken care of, use of mouthwash is recommended.

• Physical activities should be avoided for a few weeks.

• The full results of the surgery slowly appear over 3-6 months. Facial features become more distinct.
