What is facial fat injection?
Facial fat injection consists of injecting fat cells taken from the person's own body to certain areas of the face, especially the cheeks, lips, chin, and under-eye area. This procedure is applied to people who have a loss of volume in the face area or those who want to make their facial features more explicit.
The procedure first begins by removing fat from a specific area of the person (usually the abdomen,) using the liposuction method. Then, the extracted fat is purified through special processes and injected into certain areas of the face with fine needles. Facial fat injection process gives longer-lasting results and provides a more natural appearance compared to other materials used as fillers. 30-50% of the injected fat is absorbed by the body. In order to be effective, 3 sessions must be applied once every 2 months.
Healing process
Similar to filler injections, there may be swelling and bruising in the injection areas, especially in the first 2-3 days, but it begins to decrease within 1 week.
Is an incision applied in the facial fat injection process?
Facial fat injection usually does not require a surgical incision. During the procedure, fat cells taken from other parts of the body by the liposuction method are injected into the face area with the help of fine needles. However, in some cases, a minimally invasive incision can be applied when a larger fat transfer is required. This incision is usually located on the scalp or behind the ear. The incision helps to better place the fat to be injected and allows fat to be injected into larger areas. Whether an incision is required or not may vary depending on the needs of the person along with the scope and purpose of the procedure.
